Question
Hi Adria,
I have been looking for a cheap way for clients to measure their site’s position in Google. This one is free http://www.ventio.se/seo-tools/google-position/ But does not keep a history. I guess they could keep a history in Excel. Some require SOAP API Which are not issued anymore and some charge a quite a bit.
Answer
I would recommend you take a look at SheerSEO to track and retain historical data for your client’s search engine rankings.
The developer, Eyal, has been very responsive and helpful. I first tried the service in August 2008 and wrote up a post explaining how you could use SheerSEO as part of your SEO marketing strategy. Tracking what keywords and phrases are working for a business over time is important. It can help you to see what’s working or not working plus, there is a free trial. The cost is $10/month per domain name. Another powerful feature that moved me towards SheerSEO is that you can create a “management” account that will allow you to track multiple domains.
If you’re interested to see the backend, feel free to contact me and I can show you the backend for one of my sites (page rank, search terms, etc).
