Part of the problem is that people don't want to call domestic violence or any violence against women what it truly is - VIOLENCE. I've advised and counseled women with black eyes and broken limbs over the years to stop saying they got into a fight with their husbands or boyfriends b/c it wasn't a fight. Fight gives the impression that it is a battle among equals when it is not. Whew! Adria, continue to hold people accountable with their words and with this issue.

KARE 11, Julie and Belinda chose to address the issue of helping women be safer, not ignore it. In follow-up to the comment above, I explained to the sender that KARE, Julie and Belinda did an exceptional job on this piece. I am the author of Not Me! and the leader of training related to it. The KARE 11 team spent a large amount of time shooting footage, editing that footage, distilling the large amount of material covered in the three-hour training session into five minutes of air time, preparing a well thought through script, and posting supplemental material that could not be shown during air time as links on the website. Based on years of experience with media I can verify that the time, energy, and resources KARE 11 invested were well beyond what most stories receive...and I believe that reflects the genuine concern that Belinda, Julie and KARE 11 have for their women viewers.

I thank them for choosing to address this large, complicated, and sensitive topic. Though we may agree or disagree about whether they spent enough time on one aspect of the problem or another, they invested in the issue diligently and seriously. My view is that we should say "Thank you for caring."

For those who may have missed the piece on Monday night, it is being run again on this Saturday morning as a focus piece on Belinda's show.
