Folks,

It’s that time of year again for Project Homeless Connect Minneapolis. I have participated twice now and really enjoy it!

Register for training so you can be there on December 7th, 2009 with me or you can donate money. It’s an all volunteer organization and I have to say, the get a HECK of a lot done twice a year at this event.

I help in the computer lab. People want to find things on Google, apply for jobs, get their resumes typed up and print out phone numbers to call.

Join me to help people who just don’t have a place to call home!

Project Homeless Connect Minneapolis

November 2, 2009

Dear Friends of Project Homeless Connect,

Project Homeless Connect
Monday, December 7, 2009, 10:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
Minneapolis Convention Center

Volunteers still needed
Thanks very much if you have already signed up to volunteer. If not, please sign up today.  We have not yet reached our goal of 1400 volunteers and we need you to make the difference. Also please share this e-mail with anyone who may be interested in volunteering.

WE NEED YOUR HELP!
Ending homelessness, one person at a time
Project Homeless Connect is a one-stop shop model for delivering services to people experiencing homelessness. Hennepin County and the City of Minneapolis are partnering with service providers, businesses, citizens, and faith communities to bring multiple resources to one location where people can come to find the services they need. These services include: housing providers, employment specialists, medical care, mental health care, benefits specialists, eye care, haircuts, transportation assistance, food and clothing.

1400 volunteers needed for Monday, December 7

I am writing today to ask you to help at the December 7 event. The Convention Center space will be set up with many tables, rooms, and areas for the various services available and volunteers will assist the guests in connecting with the assistance they need or request. With about 2500 participants expected for this event, at least 1400 volunteers are needed to make the day successful. Volunteers must be at least 18 years of age.

Volunteer Shifts and Training
The December event will start at 10:30 a.m. and end at 4:00 p.m. with two shifts for volunteers: (1) 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and (2) 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. All volunteers are asked to arrive by 9:00 a.m.

A 90 minute fun and informative training for Project Homeless Connect is required for everyone except those who trained and volunteered for a previous event. At this training, Cathy ten Broeke, the project director, will orient the volunteers and answer questions about the event. In order to make the volunteer experience more satisfying and to offer the best service to the guests, attendance at one of the training sessions is strongly recommended for all volunteers.
