Logmein is know for easy, secure remote support via Logmein Free, Logmein Pro and Logmein Rescue. They also have a software VPN called Logmein Hamachi.

I’ve used all these products in the last 3 years to build a successful IT consulting business that I’ve run in my pajamas with my dog Bluey snuggled under my desk.

Welcome iPhone App from LogMeIN!

They released the Logmein Ignition iPhone app last year and I just had to try it. Now, mind you, it costs $30 which at the Apple iPhone store is expensive but it’s well worth it. I’ve used it in a pinch to help customers while I’m on the road or grab a quick password from Keepass.

Contest to Win Logmein for the iPhone

I have some free licenses to give away! Let me know what you currently use to access your computer when you’re away from your desk and I’ll select the 3 most “interesting” comments.

  • Contest runs until Friday, January 29th at 11:59pm CST.
  • 3 Licenses will be awarded

Logmein iPhone Ignition

Using LogMeIn To Build My IT Consulting Business

I have helped to maintain my client’s networks using LogMeIn’s tools to check on servers and workstations, do schedule reboots and quickly connect to diagnose a problem.

As my new focus of public speaking and training takes me on the road more (this weekend I’m speaking at Wordcamp Atlanta and at the Boston Wordcamp end of January), I find the need to access computers while I’m out and about. The iPhone is the perfect swiss army knife, allowing me to stay in touch with email, my social network and most importantly, my clients. It only makes sense that remote support should be available…well, remotely!

This is a sponsorship post for LogMeIn. They sponsored me for Blogworld 2009 and I had a blast talking with other bloggers, giving out 500 hugs, listening and sharing the story of Logmein with fellow geeky bloggers.

I am the "tech guy" for my family and friends, and I also do consulting for a few small businesses. One of my clients called me on the phone because they were unable to access a file he needed for the morning. I grab a laptop and use logmein to get onto the server and restore the files he needed. I could have logged in a few ways, but Logmein was the easiest. Love the product and have been using you for years.

Remotely accessing a computer, for me, follows thus:

    *ring ring, ring ring*
    Marty: "Hello?"
Me: "Marty, whats up? its Larry."
    Marty: "Whats up?"
Me: "Oh, not much... Can you Wiki something for me?"

I am so Neo-Luddite, I am not sure if this comment is properly posted, however, I am pretty sure I just used Wiki as a verb. yuck.

Well, I use the Log Me In with all my clients, but I need something... Something that able me to control computers from anywhere! And only Log Me In can do this. No problem with ip, no problem that makes you call to the people and say to her turn on the program, no problem with anything! With the Log Me In for iPhone, I can control the computers of my clients when I'm out of work, in my room, watching TV. Nothing is better than resolve a problem remotely while watching your favorite program! I'm trying to live an "Mobile Life"!

How are you choosing the winners? Random selection or do you have some criteria for a "best" response?
  • My wife's 92 year old grandfather now has to live in a retirement community and I use LogMeIn to remotely manage, update and patch his computer because he feels like this is the only connection he can maintain to life outside of the "home"
Being able to manage his computer remotely via my iPhone would be a major plus.

Please forgive me if I sound insensitive, but if your Grandfather-in-law feels his computer is his only connection, I would think he might prefer to have a live visitor- even if its just to fix his computer.

Using LogMeIn free or Win Remote Desktop where possible to help father and other friends and family.
But `on the road` is still a bit of a problem.
Just for helping dad, I think $30 is a little bit to much :-(

Currently, to access my computer when I'm away from my desk, I perform a three-step process I developed that seems to work in an emergency:
    1) pull out my iPhone
    2) mourn the fact that LogMeIn Ignition is too expensive for my woeful wallet
    3) proceed to call everyone I know whom I suspect may be a) near the stupid desk, b) willing to walk over to it and c) perform my menial task.

I just noticed we'll have to wait until Jan 29 to hear the results! Oh the anticipation!

Do you know when the promo codes expire? It seems Jan 29 might be near the end of their validity and it could be a mad rush to check the results and plug the code into iTunes. How do you plan on notifying the winners? Thanks!

I am a student. Currently, I use LogMeIn for my desktop computer and my sister's computer. This enables me to have all my files and programs ready when I am at school using a computer. I no longer have to carry around a USB stick and hope the computer I am using has all the software I need, and I can stay logged in to email and google docs.

For my sister's computer, I use LogMeIn to help her when her computer is slow or having issues. LogMeIn has a convenient chat feature that makes things easier.

I also use my iPod touch to remotely access my computer with a VNC app. The app is buggy, slow, and crashy. I can only use that on my local network because of network printing, but it is free. I considered the LogMeIn app but $30 is a lot of money.

Hopefully I can get a license...

    Adding something to that comment:

Basically, LogMeIn makes me work more efficiently on my homework and projects by letting me keep all my tabs, browser windows, files, and programs open and running all the time, ready for whenever I need them, wherever.

By the way, when does this giveaway end?
  • Contest runs until Friday, January 29th at 11:59pm CST.
    3 Licenses will be awarded

    Thanks!
  • Working in IT, I'm a handy tool to have around. All my friends and family call on me to help them out with their computers woes.

However, I moved to the US 3 years ago, and my friends and family still ask me questions via phone/email and it's always been a bit of a struggle.

About 6 months ago, I started using LogMeIn, and I got my friends and family (particularly my Dad!) and now I'm able to remotely help anyone that has LogMeIn installed on their computer, from 5000 miles away! Apart from the time difference, it's seamless and awesome.

However, with the Logmein Ignition app, I could even do it from my iPhone while I'm out an about. That would be a new level of awesomeness!
  • Currently using RDM+ from Shape. Was using Air Mouse Pro initially for teaching, n was able to control my PC as I walked ard. RDM+ is even more impressive as I can walk over to my students to type their answer as the rest see the answer appearing on projection. Would love to try LogMeIn!
  • LogMeIn for the iPhone is a great piece of software. You would think that navigating a large desktop on a small device would be tricky, but they seem to have cracked it.

Rather than move a cursor around the screen, you move the screen around the cursor (which is centred). It sounds odd, but it makes it very easy to use and lets you fly across the desktop in no time.

    Good luck to the entrants!

This will definitely make my iPhone my computer away from home. How do we win a free license?
  • Share your story on how you currently use remote desktop, remote support,
remote tools for work and I'll pick out the best ones.
