…this is a placeholder. To hold onto tradition and break the silence on my blog.
For the last five years I’ve done a blog post to celebrate and appreciate another year of life. I’ve done special things on my birthday like going to the spa to relax, having dinner with friends and doing things I enjoy like snowboarding, coding and reading a book.
This year was different because of what happened after PyCon last year with the threats and harassment. While the fear of physical harm caused me to hide in the same way Kathy Sierra did, at the same time the support from the tech community never wavered behind the scenes.
I’ve been on the path to healing and rejoining the very place that inspires and motivates me — the Internet.
I’ve come back to the place where I feel connected, appreciated and valued — the Internet.
3 nice things that happened on my birthday:
1. My 18 year old cat Turtle woke me up on my birthday with purring
(Redditchan, you were wrong about my cat)
2. A ton of people wished me a happy birthday online again this year
3. I went to the Startup Grind conference in Mountain View at the Computer History Museum
Despite the massive onslaught of faceless, anonymous accounts online who threatened me, caused the loss of my job and tried to convince me to ending my life was a smart move, I survived. And…I will move past this for the same reason I survived my childhood; courage.
And lastly while writing this blog post I tweeted that creativity can be improved by spending time around people who are just as passionate about what they’re creating:
Surround yourself with creative people and you will find yourself inspired to create as well

Thank you for all of your support in the last year.
