Self-Rescuing Princess – Be Your Own Hero With This Thinkgeek Shirt
Here’s the shirt I’m wearing today. The first time I wore this was on my San Francisco visit in March to explore neighborhoods. It reminded me I was brave and ready to face any challenge that came my way!
Be your own hero with this awesome shirt from Think Geek!
The Best Girls Are Black
I got this shirt at the Goodwill in St. Paul, Minnesota which has text and a Black/Brown woman with a big, healthy afro on her head.
It looks like I may have found the company who makes them and a reprint may be under way! If you’re interested in getting a shirt, email me at adria@butyoureagirl.com so I can start creating a list.
Today I got two more compliments on it in San Francisco so I tweeted it. Last time I tweeted about wearing it, the shirt got a big response on Twitter. It struck a chord today as well.

Thoughts on my Spa Facial at Juut
I Loved the massage provided by Kelly today and after lunch, connected
with Lori for my first ever spa facial.
removed through a series of clensing, exfoliation, massage and the
plant peel. Lori was very knowledgable about holistic approaches to
good skin care and recommended I eat more spinich and melons. I shared that I’d joined the Seward coop, started a probiotic in
January and had been seemg good results using Dr. Hauska’s holistic
facial skin care products. She tipped me off on using Brown Rice syrup as a sugar replacement. We talked about the toxicity in beauty products and agreed organic
foods are the way to go for long term health. Writing this on the iPhone so I’ll do a final update once I’m home! What a great birthday experience!

My Triple Screen setup for Dell with Windows 7 and Macbook Pro
In case you were curious on “What I’m working with” behind the scenes of ButYoureAGirl, AskAdria and Freshworkshops, here’s a view of my desktop from a few weeks ago. The two monitors connected to my Dell are the Samsung 23″ 2333SW model. My 3rd 23″ Samsung, a P2370HD which is also a HDTV, just arrived back from an RMA with Buy.com so I will take some new photos soon.
I have all 3 monitors on desktop stands which allow me to pivot them 360 from Ergotron
I blogged about both my systems late last year:
My desk is from IKEA and it’s called the Jerker (haha, now discontinued). I scored 2 of these desks on Cragslist in early 2009 after reading about them on Lifehacker. Lifehacker featured the IKEA Jerker again in September, 2009.

Why I WON’T Get A Nexus One And Extend My T-Mobile Contract
All day on Twitter, people have been talking about the newly released, Google phone. It’s called the Nexus One and runs Google’s Open Source software called Android. Not having an Android, I’ve watched from the sidelines as people bragged about how superior the Android OS was compared to the iPhone operating system.
Well, my time has come because T-mobile just confirmed I’m due for contract renewal February 20th, 2010!

Dell Discontinues XPS 8000 After Christmas Delivery Delays [VIDEO]
I noticed a lot of traffic to my Dell XPS 8000 post in the last few days and it looks like Dell has discontinued the XPS 8000 and a rumored 8100 will be released soon
But why?
- Why is Dell so far behind in system builds?
- Is there a problem with these computers?
- Are systems being returned by angry consumers?
- or…

A Technology Gift for Mother's Day She'll Remember
So at my daily lifestream show on AskAdria.com, I received a question from BMET about what would be the best gift to give his mom. A Netbook? An iPhone?
The Gift of Knowledge
Rather than giving your mom some new fangled techo device which may leave her feeling lost (how does this thing work?) or offended (why did my child give me a pink laptop?), for just $99 you can give her 1 year of One-To-One training at the Apple store.
As a One to One member, enjoy a year’s worth of personal training sessions for just $99. Sit down for in-depth, face-to-face sessions with your very own personal trainer. Experts in all things Apple, our Trainers help you get the most out of your Apple products. Just tell them what you want to be able to do, and they’ll teach you how. To become a One to One member, visit your local Apple Retail Store.
Invest in Your Mom’s Success
A couple of minutes into the video, BMET shares that his mom is a teacher so this suggestion really struck a home run! I think buying someone you love a gift based on them becoming more knowledgeable says, “I Love You” more than any technical trinket because you are saying, “I want to see you be happy in life and I know technology is here to stay”.
Who Should Take Apple One-To-One Training?
Once I get my macbook (or macbook pro), I plan to sign up for the Apple One-To-One as well so when I recommend it to my clients, I have already walked a mile in their “future” shoes and can go into detail about the benefits.
Some people may be thinking, “But Adria, my mom has a PC so these classes won’t help her”. Au contraire, these sorts of classes benefit your mother for a deeper reason. They give her the opportunity to become comfortable with technology. Many people find technology to be frustrating and too fast paced. They often have a ton of unasnwered questions and feel they never have a chance to truly understand “what’s going on”. Now just put your mom in the Apple One-To-One environment and you can see how it would be a dream come true…no distractions, a focused topic, hands-on training. This will build confidence, competentancy and most likely create an increased sense of comfort around technology for your mom.
View this as an opportunity
You: “Mom, meet technology.”
Your Mom after a few sessions: “You know, that technology stuff is pretty awesome. I understand why <fill in the blank> and I am going to try <some awesome technology thing>. Please don’t forget to confirm for next Saturday on your Google Calendar.”
You: “Ok, Mom. Geeze! You’re all techie now! I kinda like it.”
Your Mom: “Good because I like it too.”
