Call For Video Editors For YouTube Web Series

Image for Call For Video Editors For YouTube Web Series

I just Tweeted that I’m on the lookout for a few good video editors for upcoming projects I’ll be working on.  With the growing popularity of my YouTube channel of technology videos, I’m going to need a lot of editing done!

  • Adobe CS (including After Effects)
  • Final Cut
  • Sony Vegas
  • Green screening
  • Lighting & Audio

Editors can be located anywhere in the world as long as we can use email, Skype and Dropbox.  I’m also looking for a local camera person in San Francisco to do on-site recordings as well.  Light and audio experience a plus!

There will be both paid and volunteer opportunities so if you or someone you know has this sort of background, experience and interest, please reach out to me via email at adria@butyoureagirl.com or use the form on my contact page.

Equipment

My current equipment includes the Canon Vixia HF-20 and the Sony ECM-MS907.  I picked up the microphone this year at a local audio shop on Market street because the “dead cat” shoe in mic I’d bought didn’t filter out noisy background.

Wordcamp San Francisco Interviews

That said, the set of video interviews I did at Wordcamp San Francisco have been edited and posted.

It was great partnering with Konstantin and Rostem of Theme.fm to capture on the ground footage and spread the word about Theme.fm which covers WordPress from a developer’s viewpoint.  Plus they have some pretty awesome free WordPress themes rolling out!

Interview: Matt Mullenweg at WordCamp San Francisco – Theme.fm

Interview: Otto (Samuel Wood) — WordPress Core Developer – Theme.fm

Interview: Alex Mills — WordPress VIP Services – Theme.fm

Interview: John Ford — VaultPress Safekeeper – Theme.fm

Summary

As always, I appreciate how my readers always come through with the most amazing connections, ideas and help so allow me to say thank you to all of you!

Next week I’ll be at Techcrunch Disrupt here in San Francisco with Jeffrey of Geekazine interviewing people so stay tuned for those to roll out in the coming weeks!

Image for Thank You YouTube Subscribers! 10000+ [VIDEO]

I would like to take a moment to thank everyone who has watched my videos here on the blog, on YouTube and through my web series AskAdria.  I recently passed 10,000 YouTube subscribers and one of my videos now has over 200,000 views.  I’m super excited about these accomplishments and this tells me I need to pivot and focus on doing video.  I became a YouTube partner this February to increase my reach and make a commitment to delivering more value based content via video.

Hipmunk Airline Travel Made Easy [VIDEO]

Image for Hipmunk Airline Travel Made Easy [VIDEO]

Hipmunk totally saved my butt when I had to travel back to back from San Francisco to Park City, Utah to speak Friday and then depart the next day for Los Angeles, CA to speak Saturday!

I met with Florence (@flo_hipmunk)  from Hipmunk for coffee to talk about the travel service.  At first was a bit unsure about using it because I’ve been using Priceline since 2000 and have been using Yapta for price tracking on flights for the last year so I didn’t see where Hipmunk could fit into my travel planning for the public speaking I do…until last month.

When you travel to multiple cities before returning to your departure city, it’s known as “open jaw”.  Searching for flights can seem like a “hit or miss” type thing but there are strategies like flying mid week and buying your tickets between Tuesday and Thursday (when airlines let go of tickets reserved by travel agents over the weekend that were not fully booked) and buying at least 21 days in advance.

For $352 I was able to travel from San Francisco on a Thursday to Park City , UT, speak Friday morning then fly out that afternoon so I could speak in Los Angeles, CA Saturday morning. It was friggin’ awesome to plan out my flight using Hipmunk because I could see all the legs of my flight and choose them by departure time!

This is one of the screenshots I took in early June when I was researching flights.  I needed to make sure my departure and arrival times would allow me time to get to the conferences, socialize, network and of course speak!

Check out this fun video Grumo media did explaining Hipmunk:

3 Ways To Benefit From Knowing Who Likes Your Tweets and Google+ Shares [VIDEO]

Twitter introduce a new feature a few months ago to their notifications that alerted you when someone favorited one of your tweets.  Favoriting a tweet is like bookmarking, Facebook liking and Google +1′ing it, sort of.  Favoriting has been something private that could only be seen by the account owner like things you bookmark in your browser while the latter two are public and outward facing.

In my video, I explain how my friend Meghan, connected myself and a friend after she realized, through a favorited tweet, we both lived in San Francisco.

The Story

My friend Meghan Wilker (@irishgirl) who lives and works in Minneapolis, retweeted one of my tweets about an upcoming WordPress training. She’d taken the class online and loved it.  Then, Meghan saw her friend, Carol, who also lives in San Francisco, favorited her retweet. Meghan then took the time to write an email introduction so we could connect since we both live in SF.

How awesome is that? I realized that initially everyone groaned about the new twitter notifications but after having this happen and talking with social media clients who feel frustrated by the sheer number of tools out there intended to help them “manage” Twitter, I thought this was a perfect example of taking things back to basics on how to draw value from this new Twitter feature.

What did they favorite?

This tells you what people value in your Twitter stream. Since favoriting is is like bookmarking something, it shows that they want to reference your tweet. What did you share? A link? A personal thought about your view of the world? A breaking news story? Something funny or uplifting? Take note and use these favorited tweets to shape your Twitter persona.

Who favorited it?

Is it someone who follows you? Was someone following a keyword or a hashtag and catch your tweet that way? Is it someone you met at a conference? How often do the two of you talk? Use the favorited tweet as a segway to start a longer conversation offline or via email with them. I pay attention after conferences now to who favorites my tweets and see it as a great opportunity to connect about my technology consulting and training services.

When did they favorite your tweet?

In my video, I give the example of tweeting something before lunch yet seeing that someone favorited it just after dinner. This will give you insight into when people are potentially reading your tweets and may be an opportunity to adjust your tweeting schedule. Twitter of course is full of tweets and links but people have a tendency to share business related items during the day and personal items later on. Maybe save that story about your new breakfast shake with almonds until the evening when people will have a better chance of seeing it.

How Google Can Run With This Concept

Google+ tells you who +1′d and shared your content. I’d like to see a running log of it and I can then see this tying into a CRM, lead and deal tracking system in say….Google Apps?

How Switch Between Your Personal Gmail and Google Apps In The Same Browser [VIDEO]

Many people have experienced the frustration being booted out of their Gmail and Google Apps account after Google’s transition of all Google Apps accounts to proper Google accounts.

You can enable account switching without using multiple browsers by using the following page multiple sign-in settings page:

Google+ Sharing [VIDEO]

I’m in awe of the shareability in Google+

Share your own thoughts, photos and videos. Let people comment, +1 your content, share it with their own circles and engage their own audience.

Cross pollinate circles and become a true connector.

I mention that I shared public Google+ hangouts by +Michael Dell and +Mark Watson (aka SoldierKnowsBest) were hosting a hangout and then +Chris Pirillo shared a link I shared about potential future usage limitations Google may impose on G+ Hangouts as Skype did.

Google+ Events prediction [VIDEO]

At first this was going to be a blog post playfully poking fun at a few event registration services that didn’t have +1 but then I realized the sheer enormity of Google releasing an event and organization tool.  No laughing matter!

Not only should Meetup, Plancast and Eventbrite be rethinking what Google+ means to them, so should Salesforce with their chatter and Yammer’s enterprise chat tool.   Google’s ability to step into enterprise and become a full on collaboration tool between departments is real.

And then add on the possibility for near seamless provisioning for new employees and I just had to make a video sharing these thoughts.

Google+ is nothing like Google Wave by the way.

My prediction is Google+ Events will come to market.

How soon do you think we’ll see this being offered as a part of Google Apps?

[VIDEO] God And Twitter Work In Mysterious Ways

Watch the video for my thoughts on Twitter
(and subscribe to my YouTube channel)

Last week, I got all teary eyed and appreciative about how awesome Twitter has been in changing and shaping opportunities in my life and sent out some tweets.  They were met with RT’s which they struck a chord with others.

“God and Twitter work in mysterious ways but you can uncover their wealth and wisdom if you keep your eyes open”

“It is just so amazing how much Twitter has changed my life for the better”

“I cannot even begin to count the number of seemingly serendipitous tweets that have changed the course of my life”

To me, using Twitter is almost a spirtual expereince due to the amazing interactions I have with people.

It’s amazing how much Twitter has changed my life for the better.  I now have this extended network of amazing people I truly feel I can reach out to and count on for ideas, advice, news and friendship.  Twitter is definitely a “pay-it-forward” network where the more you give, the more you get.

What Is a CAPTCHA And How They Make Websites Suck [VIDEO]

Know those forms that have that annoying box at the bottom with a bunch of scrambled words in it that look like this?

Well that’s a CAPTCHA and it’s an acronym that stands for:
Completely Automated Public Turing tests to tell Computers and Humans Apart

Let’s talk about how CAPTCHA’s make websites suck.

I was motivated to write this article after Allison responeded to my Tweet sharing what the acronym stood for:

The goal is to prevent automated systems from submitting data, usually via a form. While it may seem like a good idea to block fake submissions and registrations, it can often leave the end user feeling frustrated.

Loving Day: How Interracial Marriage Became Legal [VIDEO]

June 12th is Loving Day and marks a time in history when people thought quite differently about who could love who.

They did this sort of thinking out out and put laws in place to match those thoughts.  I knew about the court case but didn’t know there was an actual day to celebrate and recognize a change on love an marriage in America.

I participated in a guided interview on Growing up mixed in America this Sunday as a part of MTV’s ACT awareness campaign and decided to do a video to share what’s become known as “The Loving Story”:

In 1958 two people decided to get married.  They were in love.  Unfortunately, Mildred and Richard lived in Virginia at the time where laws like the Racial Integrity Act of 1924 prevented them from legally getting married.  Why?  Mildred was Black and Richard was White.  They decided to go to Washington D.C. to get married because it was important to take those vows and pledge their love for each other.

Well, it turned out Virginia not only had a law against interracial marriage but also one against getting married in anther state and trying to be all uppity and return to Virginia!  The Lovings were arrested in their home and taken to jail.  The judge was going to sentence them for one to three years but told them if they left the state (for at least 25 years), he would let them leave.   Read More…

Mozy Backup Dropped The Ball On Customer Support Today [VIDEO]

After being both a Mozy Home and MozyPro customer since 2007, I’m sorry to say that Mozy has gone down the slippery slope of low quality support and outsourcing, the same as Dell did a few years back.

If you remember the Dell Hell post Jeff Jarvis did a few years back, it was about his horrible experience of Dell passing the buck.

Well, welcome to the club Mozy. #fail
