How To Setup Tweetboard

1. Make sure you’re logged into Twitter with the account you want to connect your Tweetboard for
2. Visit Tweetboard and click the big button “Request a free alpha invite!”
3. Send the following Tweet but replace the url with the site you want Tweetboard on:
   

   Requesting an invite for Tweetboard Alpha (http://tweetboard.com) by @140ware, for my site: http://ReplaceWithYourURL.com

4. Open Filezilla or your preferred FTP client and connect to your blog’s FTP site
5. Navigate into your themes folder (path may vary)
   

   My path is:
   /home/byag/public_html/wp-content/themes/

6. Edit the footer.php file via Edit Pad Pro or your preferred text editor
7. Copy the code from the Tweetboard site to your clipboard
8. Insert the code and replace the last part with your actual Twitter username
9. Save your footer.php and upload it back up via Filezilla
10. Refresh your blog to view Tweetboard
11. Sign into Tweetboard widget via your blog to authorize with Twitter
12. Done!

“Hit Me On Twitter“

So the internet is all buzzing because of the new video by Mistah Fab. All I can say is, “about time!”. I loved how each new person had their Twitter name featured. I think it’s one of the best recent examples of how to teach someone without teaching them (Randy Pauche). By the end of the video, I bet you could ask people:

• What is Twitter?
• How do you use Twitter?
• What is Mistah Fab’s Twitter name?

Now while I don’t need to be seeing all the “booty” shots of the video chicks, I was happy to see folks of all shades and genders using mobile devices to communicate via Twitter.

My first hip hop technology video experience was through Chuck (@Chuck), the SEO Rapper. I left a comment on Chuck’s blog but think I was too shy still about blogging to put something up about him. I was awestruck that there were Brown people in the internet talking about technology!

As you may know, nearly everyone who:

• Works in technology
• Runs a technology company
• Attends technology conferences
• Is a technology venture capitalist

is a White guy!  It can get really old being in IT and feeling you don’t belong.  This year I’ve been able to connect online and offline with folks who are active in changing the race and gender makeup of technology by participating and it’s caused me to do the same.  I did reach out to Chuck via email though and he was one of the very first people I started following on Twitter! I just loved his video about how to get Search Engine love, improve your PPC click through and use “strong” instead of “bold” in your markup!

I hope people out there who claim to “hate rap music” think twice about how they can enjoy one of these songs yet swear off all other music. Music is made up of the beat, the sound and lyrics. I personally don’t like most country, bluegrass and polka music BUT, I’m willing to try new things, especially in the advice of a friend. So friend, I ask you to open your mind and know that not all “rap music” is about violence, drugs and getting rich. Listen to Talib Kweli on iTunes to get a taste for strong positive lyrics over a nice beat.

So Chuck, Dale and Mistah F.A.B, I thank you for being pioneers and I look forward to more music that shakes up the Internet

Ok, it’s true, sometimes you have to @ me on Twitter or DM me so I actually watch things on YouTube. That’s what @irishgirl did today even though I saw her link up to this on Facebook yesterday.

Dale has the lyrics on his site so I put in a few verses below that made me smile big

I am grateful I was able to attend this year’s BlogHer09.  After the inital kick off Friday, I visited the famed ”expo center” to see what everyone was raving about. Once inside, I let my eyes lead me. I took photos of booths, piecing together who they were targeting based on the design.  I also took note of the gender, age and race of folks working the booths.  I steered clear of any booths that had kid toys and pastel colors.

My First BlogHer Swag Item

I eventually made it to the Liberty Mutual booth and they had a huge sign that said, “What is Responsible Blogging?”. I saw this as a good opportunity to share my opinion and get in some public speaking practice so away I went!

They asked what responsible blogging meant to me and what I thought of the proposed FTC guidelines. I personally have not been compensated by any company to blog about their products. I have started this year to contact technology companies I feel passionately about to explore sponsorships and partnerships. Companies have contacted me about advertising on my blogs and I’ve reviewed them on a case by case basis to see if things were a good fit.

Did Technology Swag Affect My Opinion?

This is where I scored the 250GB External Western Digital Passport drive. I didn’t know these were being given out to the first 20 folks who did a video interview but sure felt happy when they handed me one! I estimate the retail value at $80.

What I Knew and Now Know About Liberty Mutual

I had done laptop data migrations for Liberty Mutual before on behalf of Teksystems so I was familiar with them as an insurance company but not for this new responsibility blog they had going at http://www.responsibilityproject.com.  I surfed the site a bit with one of the women working the booth and vowed to review it in more detail after I got home.

Reading over the stories of alleged teenage pregnancy “pacts” and Paris Hilton’s cancelled relief efforts in Rwanda, I enjoyed the comments people left and developed perspective on issues I hadn’t really paid attention to in the news.

Overall Impression

I give kudos to Liberty Mutual for doing a blog on these topics which encourage participation in the comments.  I think it was a great way for Liberty to get their feet wet in blogging as well.  The design of the site is easy on the eyes, the articles are well written and I found the comments to be appropriate.  I give them a thumbs up for using Feedburner for theirs RSS feed.
